LEATHERWOOD is a TREE of STATE SIGNIFICANCE. It is the rock star for Food Security in Tasmania. It is a yearly performer for the Beekeeping Industry. It is an annual “Tasmanian Floral Event”. Traditionally Leatherwood is relied on because it produces nectar from approximately December to April. Native trees such as Blue Gum and Stringy Bark produce nectar for Bees, however do not flower every year and are therefore not a reliable source of energy and storage, to sustain Tasmanian Bees through wild weather and snow capped Tassie winters.
